Vacation Destination

We are officially on vacation. Although we are firm believers in the need and benefits of periods of rest and refreshment, we have found it hard this year to get away from work. This week is a compromise of sorts. Joey won’t be flying or scheduling, but we will be staying in Bunia.

 Pajama Party

We have lots of fun stuff planned for our “staycation” as well as several projects we are hoping to do. Mostly, though, we are just hoping for some rest. I thought it was ironic that one of the last emails I read before shutting down our email for vacation was an updated travel alert for our area…

and an article by the BBC...

I want to emphasize at this point, that we are safe. We take many safety precautions in normal life and in our flying, so that we can remain here doing the work to which God has called us. I mention the above so that you will know more specifically how you can be praying.

~Pray for peaceful resolution of these conflicts.
~Pray for safety and provision for the many displaced Congolese.
~Pray for our team too, that we would be channels of God’s love and peace to all whom we fly.

Little Things

I was talking with my mom earlier this week and she asked how life was going here. I gave the one sentence overview that goes something like, “Exhausted, discouraged, overwhelmed, but the girls are always making us laugh!” “So,” she says, “now everyone will want to know how God stepped in and made it all better.” Ha! It doesn’t usually work that way. But wait! Not true…Mom, tell them that God…

~gave patience to me in abundance today. Dorothy and Hannah can push my buttons like no one else! No way could I have kept my words and actions in check without his patience. It didn’t come from me. Trust me.

~scheduled a flight through Goma this month so I have an abundance of cheese and can make quesadillas tonight.

~brought rain solving our water shortage.

~provided a generator 3 years ago so that when the power went out last night due to all the rainy days, we could still have lights.

~enabled Joey to get the flight schedule out every week despite what often seems like constant interruptions.

~carved out reading time for me—Dorothy is pushing her bounds right now by trying to get into everything during her book/nap time. So, I now spend that hour sitting in the doorway. Not much else I can do, but read! My computer cord doesn’t even reach that far!

~made my rose bush bloom this week!

So very grateful we have a God who is constantly active in our lives. In every tiny detail.
